Steve Haro

With over two decades of government service, political campaign management, and corporate executive experience, Steve Haro’s work in Congress, the executive branch and the private sector has spanned countless issues, challenges and disciplines. His unique, broad background provides clients, collaborators and colleagues a holistic view and an ability to execute that few can match.

  • Before forming Haro Solutions, he was the Executive Vice President of Government Affairs at TelevisaUnivision where he oversaw all U.S. policy, advocacy and political work for the 15,000-employee company, which is the largest Spanish language media enterprise in the world. It was in this role that the publication The Hill named him to its “Top Lobbyists” list twice.

He is also the Hispanic Lobbyist's Association's 2024 "Lobbyist of the Year" recipient.

Prior to joining TelevisaUnivision, Haro was a consultant for the highly regarded government affairs firm, Mehlman Consulting, where he provided strategic policy and political counsel to Fortune 500 companies, venture-backed startups, trade associations, and many others.

Haro’s government service included serving as Chief of Staff to the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) where he ran the largest member office in Congress by budget and personnel and was the principal political and policy adviser to the four-term senator.

In 2015, Haro was nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate as Assistant Secretary for Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs at the Department of Commerce. In this role, he counseled Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker on legislative matters; provided insight to the secretary on congressional relations; and was the principal liaison for members of Congress, governors and mayors to the secretary and the department.

Haro also served as Chief of Staff to Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM), first in the House and then in the Senate. As the principal strategic policy and political adviser, he oversaw the tactical and budgetary day-to-day operations of the legislator’s congressional and political offices, including his 2010 re-election to the House and his 2012 Senate campaign.

In 2008, Haro worked for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee as its Western Regional Political Director and National Hispanic Outreach Director where he provided political, financial and communications counsel to 27 targeted congressional campaigns and advised congressional campaigns across the country on the best methods and strategy to turn out the Latino vote.

Earlier in his career, he was the Senior Adviser to former Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA), who was then Assistant to the Speaker of the House and is now Secretary of Health and Human Services. It was in this role as a member of the House leadership staff that Haro was recognized by Hispanic Business Magazine in its “Top 100 Most Influential Hispanics” list. In addition, he served in other roles for Rep. Becerra including Press Secretary and Director of Legislation and Communication where he counseled the congressman on major policy issues including health care, immigration, trade, economics and the federal budget.

In 2004, Haro was the Colorado Communications Director for Sen. John Kerry’s presidential campaign. He started his career following graduate school as the Public Affairs Manager for the Los Angeles office of the international public relations firm, the MWW Group.

Haro received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Loyola University Chicago.
